About Judson A. Werner DDS, PS
Our entire staff is focused on giving patients the highest quality oral health-care in
a comfortable and professional environment.

Judson A. Werner, DDS
Dr. Werner grew up in Olympia, Washington before attending Santa Clara
University.  He earned his dental degree from the University of Washington.  Upon
graduating from dental school he worked as an associate dentist in downtown
Seattle, and volunteered his time as a part-time professor at the University of
Washington School of Dentistry.  Dr. Werner joined the practice in January 2004.

Dr. Werner is a  member of the
Seattle/King County Dental Society, the Washington
State Dental Association, the Washington Academy of General Dentistry, the
Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Werner is proud to support the Seattle King County Dental Foundation, a charity
organization with a goal to fund and support education programs to increase
access to dental care in King County.  Dr. Werner also recently returned from a trip
to do volunteer dentistry in Uganda in June of 2007.  He had previously
volunteered in Jamaica in November of 2005.  Dr. Werner and his wife, Amelie,
enjoy sailing, wake boarding, skiing, hiking, and traveling.

Amy Haselman, Dental Assistant
A skilled dental assistant, Amy has been with the practice since 1996.  Amy's  first
son, Kade, was born on June 29, 2004, and her daughter, Ella, was born on April
6, 2006.  Amy is currently pregnant with her third child (due in March 2008).  A
native of Maple Valley, she and her husband moved back and built a home there,
which they are enjoying immensely.  Amy and her husband, Michael, were married
in March of 2000.  Amy and Michael also have a cat named "carport kitty" (where
they found him), who was a stray which they adopted.  Amy enjoys playing with
Kade and Ella, reading, watching movies, and going for walks in her spare time.
The two things that Amy enjoys most about dentistry are the interaction with the
patients and the technical aspect of her job.

Sarah Sloan, Dental Assistant
Sarah is a graduate of South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia with an
associates degree in dental assisting.  She recently moved back to Kirkland,
where she is from, and joined Dr. Werner's office.  In her free time, Sarah enjoys
camping with friends and family, listening to music, going to movies, and
barbecuing while watching Seahawks football with her boyfriend, Jake.  She loves
being a dental assistant, because it is fun and an interesting hands-on way to help
people.

Joyce Nakashima, Registered Dental Hygienist
Joyce is a Husky.  She received her bachelors degree and her dental hygiene
certificate from the University of Washington.  Joe, and her Australian shepherd,
Michi, complete her household.  They enjoy spending time with family and friends.
She enjoys all the outdoor activities the Northwest has to offer, and can usually be
found fishing, crabbing, clam digging, or picking mushrooms and berries.  In the
summer she enjoys her Redfish kayak and in the winter, snowshoes.  Flowers are
also a favorite of hers; she is student of the Saga Goryu School of Ikebana.  Joyce
finds family practice very rewarding.  She feels privileged to meet and help our
diverse and interesting patients and their families.

Karta Rayne Shaffer, Registered Dental Hygienist
Born and raised in Ketchikan, Alaska, Karta grew up around hiking, fishing, and
dentistry.  The oldest child of a dentist, she was chair-side assisting for weekend
emergency root canals by the age of twelve.  Though she never thought that she
would end up in a dental profession, she is thrilled to be here.  Karta graduated
from the Lake Washington Technical College with an Associates degree in dental
hygiene and has been practicing since July 2007.  She is a member of the
American Dental Hygienists Association and the Washington State Dental
Hygienists Association - Lake Washington Chapter.  Another achievement she is
proud of is her bachelor's degree in music performance.  Karta began studying
piano by the age of five and taught herself to play the marimba at age twelve.  She
went on the study percussion at Ithaca College Conservatory of Music in New York
under Gordon Stout.  She missed the Pacific Northwest, however, and ventured
back, finishing her degree at Central Washington University.  Karta enjoys the
warmer, drier climate of Seattle and expects to be living here for quite a while.  She
currently lives in Bellevue with her two puppies, Bailey and Piper.  Though not a
world traveler, she lives vicariously through her patients and welcomes vacation
stories (especially tropical ones).

Dawn Bixler, Patient Care Coordinator
Dawn is our Patient Care Coordinator.  She can schedule your appointments, help
you with insurance and billing, and answer any questions you may have.  She is a
Washington State native, born and raised in Bremerton, WA.  She moved to this
side of the peninsula in 1997 and bought her first home in Lynnwood in October of
2004.  She and her fiancée, Barney, have been in a relationship for 10 years and
have three children.  Alexis goes  Kamiak Hight School and enjoys playing soccer
and basketball.  Drake is in elementary school and enjoys swim lessons.
Lindsey, her youngest, born in 2005, enjoys playing dress-up and dancing.  Dawn
has three cats, Bonzai, Pork Chop, and Runner.  Dawn enjoys SCUBA diving, snow
skiing with her family and shopping in her spare time.

How do I know if my dentist has a good professional record?
The Washington State Dental Association requires members to take at least 42
hours of continuing dental education courses every two years, which means that
member dentists are constantly upgrading their technical skills. You may call the
Washington State Dental Quality Assurance Commission office at (360) 236-4860
or FAX (360) 664-9077 to find out if a formal complaint has been filed against the
dentist.
